Finally arrived in Yogyakarta, Indonesia!! / ついにインドネシアのジョグジャカルタ到着！！

In recent several years many art people whom I can trust have kept saying especially Yogyakarta, Indonesia is one of the hottest city in Asian art schene.  I have been eager to stay there. Finally my wish came true now.
アジアのアートシーンで最も熱いのがインドネシアでもとりわけジョグジャカルタだと、信用できる多くの美術関係者が口にするのを、ここ数年よく聞いていた。ものすごく滞在してみたかったが、ついに念願がかなった。

I arrived in my destination of the Ruang MES 56 where I will stay for 2 months residency. They are an important artists collective in Yogyakarta. 
二ヶ月のレジデンスで滞在する目的地のルアング・メス56に到着した。彼らはジョグジャカルタで重要なアーティストコレクティブだ。

Abud who is a member of MES 56 has been waiting for my arrival. He is the guy who will assist and help me during my residency.

メス56のメンバーのアブドが自分の到着を待っていた。

彼が自分のレジデンス中いろいろ手伝ってくれるらしい。

They have galleries, small film theater, studio, art shop and residency which represent arts relating with mainly photography, video and film.  As I liked the matter this place is functioning as the community of the artists, curators and creative people, I picked here.

彼らは主に写真や映像や映画に関連した芸術を紹介するギャラリーや小さなフィルムシアターやスタジオ、アートショップやレジデンスを持っている。ここの場所がアート関係者のコミュニティとして機能しているのも好きな理由で、ここを選んだ。

After Ama a manager of MES56 arrived, she took me several interesting places in Yogya, where are still open even in the end of the year. 
The 1st place is the Rumah Kijang Mizuma where one of the most powerful gallerist in Japan, Mr. Sueo Mizuma has residency and Angki Purbandono who works with Mizuma Art Gallery has his studio. I met a young Japanese artist, Sayaka Toda san who has stayed there since beginning of December.
メス56のマネージャー、アマが到着して、彼女が年末でもやっているジョグジャのいくつかの面白いところに連れて行ってくれた。
ミズマアートギャラリーの三瀦さんのレジデンス・キジャンミズマとミズマアートギャラリーと一緒に仕事をしているアンキーもスタジオをここに構えている。12月頭からここに滞在している日本の若手作家の戸田沙也加さんに出会った。

Afterwards we visited the hotel where has an art gallery. Apart from the exhibition they have had, the design of the hotel which is merging with nature also really impressive.

その後、アートギャラリーがあるホテルを訪ねた。展覧会はもちろん、自然と融合したホテルそのもののデザインがとても印象的でよかった。

In the end we came to the KUNCHI Cultural Studies Center as a Colombian artist who has had residency will have a final presentation after her residency. This organization works as the platform for cultural people of various field to meet each other, share their ideas and realize projects together.  The space is opened to the public generally and people can use the space there. I found the concept of the organization is really interesting for many experimental creative activities.

最後にレジデンス滞在したコロンビア人アーティストが成果を見せる最後のプレゼンテーションをすると聞いて、クンチ・カルチュアル・スタディーズ・センターやって来た。ここの組織は様々なジャンルの文化人が共に出会い、アイデアを共有し、プロジェクトを一緒に実現するためのプラットフォームとして機能している。通常スペースは公共に開かれていて、誰でもスペースを利用できる。多くの実験的な創造活動の生まれる場所として非常に興味深いコンセプトの組織だと思った。

She is Syafiatudina, a member of the KUNCHI and a curator. She said she will stay in the Art Center Ongoing, Tokyo for her research residency early next year for 1 month. So it means she will stay in the Art Center Ongoing together with my partner Sinead O'Donnell as Sinead will also have 2 month residency there from January to March 2018. Such a small world!

彼女はディナ、クンチのメンバーでキュレーターだ。来年早々に一ヶ月のリサーチ・レジデンスでアート・センター・オンゴーイングに滞在すると言っていた。と言うことは、つまり自分のパートナーのシネイドオドネルがアート・センター・オンゴーイングで来年2018年の1月〜3月まで二ヶ月間のレジデンスで滞在するので、シネイドと一緒にレジデンスするということだ。なんて狭い世界だと思った。

I encountered Wok The Rock, the director of Ruang MES 56. He  said he has stayed in Yokohama for the "Koganecho Bazaar 2013". Though I have never participated in the Koganecho Bazaar, I actually stayed in Koganecho, Yokohama in 2013 to participate in the "Aichi Triennial 2013" instead.  I might have met him in 2013.

ルアング・メス56のディレクター、ウォック・ザ・ロックに遭遇。彼は2013 年の「黄金町バザール」に参加するため横浜に滞在したと言っていた。自分は黄金町バザールに参加したことはないが、代わりに「あいちトリエンナーレ2013」に参加するために横浜の黄金町に滞在したのだ。あの時もしかしたら彼に会っていたのかもしれないなと思った。
