Talkin' in the Rain / 雨に話せば

自分のトークイベントが激しい雨の中開催された。雨のなか来てくださった皆さんありがとうございます！！ありがとうMES56。サポートして頂いている国際交流基金アジアセンターの関係者の皆さんありがとうこございます。

Before the talk event, as I have worked as the gallery technician in the big public gallery of Golden Thread Gallery, Belfast for over 1 year and half, by myself I tried to install the canvas as the screen for the video projection using the stuffs the MES already has.  Though the MES doesn't have so much tools and the stuffs which many art organizations in other countries has. I managed finishing the installation with using my head. One of the most difficult things I found in Yogya is really hard to find the materials, tools or anything which I want to buy in the city.  Yogya doesn't have the proper big DIY store which sells anything, and IKEA doesn't exist here, they don't have Amazon service either. A four storied local huge electric store didn't even have the mobile phone holder for my bike. This city has not been really invaded and poisoned by the system of the capitalism yet. When I talked about my difficulties to Ama, she totally agreed how I said. She said the artists community like the MES56 works good to share these difficulties to solve the problem together with other members.

トーク開催前、ベルファストの巨大な公共ギャラリーのゴールデンスレッドギャラリーでギャラリーテクニシャンとして一年半以上働いていたように、メス56に既にあるものを使い、キャンバス布をビデオプロジェクションのスクリーンのための代わりにして自分で吊り下げた。メスには他の国のアート組織に普通にあるような基本的な道具もほとんどないので、知恵を使ってなんとかインストレーションを終わらせた。ジョグジャで最も大変だと思ったことの一つは欲しいものが街で見つからないと言うことだ。ジョグジャカルタには巨大なホームセンターもイケアもアマゾンのネットサービスも無い。地元の4階立ての巨大な電気屋でさえ、自分が街中探している、自転車につける携帯電話用のホルダーを売ってないのだ。この街は我々が当たり前に感じている資本主義の生活に、まだ侵略されておらず、まだ毒されてはいないのだ。アマにこの話をした時、自分の言ったことに同意していた。彼女によると、メスのようなアーティストコミュニティではそういった問題を他のメンバーと皆でシェアし、皆で一緒に問題を解決するのにうまく機能しているということだ。

The only Japanese artist lives in Yogyakarta (I'm not sure. But I think), Mr. Takashi Kuribayashi came to the MES56 finally. Though he missed my talk, I was really glad I could meet him. He said he doesn't feel good because of catching a cold. Thank you so much for your coming Takashi-san.
